Friday Five {09.29.2017}: Five Ideas for the Week and Life

Happy Friday! Here are five things we are doing and loving this week to inspire you. Read on for more…

ONE

One of my favorite view spots in San Francisco is Hawk Hill.  On Friday night, Mr. H and I had a few hours to ourselves, so went up there to watch the sunset.  We were lucky enough to see a few deer, hear a den of coyote pups “go off”, and witness a spectacular sunset.

TWO

I just finished a great, provocative book, Bastard Out of Carolina, by Dorothy Allison and just started a new book, I Shall Be Near To You by Erin Lindsay McCabe, so far, 50 pages in, it is awesome.

Bastard Out of Carolina, by Dorothy Allison is an amazing book. It follows the life of a young girl growing up in the rural south.  I don’t want to give too much away, so I will just say it is a fascinating page turner.  Some schools and libraries have banned the booked, and there is a great discussion in the afterword of the author’s perspective.

I Shall Be Near To You by Erin Lindsay McCabe was recommended by my mom’s book group.  It is a novel about the life of a woman who follows her husband into the civil war army.  Great writing and it is a pretty quick read.

THREE

I am starting to plan our holiday break for the week after Christmas.  We are headed to Southwest Utah to check out the incredible National and State Parks…Zion National Park, Antelope Canyon, Bryce National Park, Grand Escalante.  Has anyone been?  Any suggestions?  I am trying to figure out the best place to stay that is the most central.  Any suggestions or recommendations are greatly appreciated!  If you want to check out my pinterest board for Utah with my current ideas, click here.

FOUR

Thanks to the 1% for art program where large building projects are required to fund at public art that is at least equal to 1% of the construction costs, there is a ton of great public art in San Francisco.  Here are a couple that caught my eye this week.

FIVE

It is so easy to fall into the routine and do the same thing.  Last week I broke out of the routine and instead of my usual walk, headed out to the Batteries to Bluffs Trail from the Golden Gate Bridge to Baker Beach.  We were rewarded with a great workout and great views.
