I love to bake and I have the biggest sweet tooth, so it makes sense that I love to bake holidays cookies. Gingerbread, peppermint, sugar, I love them all. There are so many great holiday cookie recipes, here are some of my favorite recipes from the past few years that I have tried and keep making.
My love of cookie baking (and eating) culminates in our annual holiday party. I bake a few kinds of cookies and see what the most popular ones are. For my ultimate cookie assortment, there are four main types of holiday cookies: slice and bake or sugar cookies, gingerbread cookies, chocolate/mint combination, and chocolate chip (they are always everyone’s favorites, so the holiday season is not a time to forget about this tried and true classic). One of the nice things about cookies, is that it is super easy to make the dough ahead of time and keep it in the freezer until you are ready to take it out and bake it, so go ahead and make a double batch and save half for whenever the cravings strike.
There are the sugar cookies that kids love to decorate, but what I love to experiment with are the adult versions. Here are my favorites:
To take your plain sugar cookies up a notch, try this recipe from the Joy of Cooking and add 1tsp of almond extract. These are the perfect cookies for kid holiday cookie decorating parties.
Lemony Slice and Bake – I like adding lemon to my cookie try to lighten it up a bit.
Pistachio Cardamon Butter Cookies – If you like the spices in chai, try this recipe, simple but delicious.
This is my favorite gingerbread cookie from previous years: Chewy Ginger Cookies
This is a new one I tried this year and really like: Spiced Molasses Cookies
I love making use of candy canes in our cookie making. My favorite is to combine it with a double chocolate cookie, yum! Here are a few of my favorite recipes that I have tried the last few years. They are all pretty easy and fail proof.
If you haven’t yet tried my chocolate chip cookie recipe, try it out, trust me, you will not be disappointed.
